A new life for worn and torn textiles

Cooperative profile

Reborn Fibers would like to set up a plant to recycle textile and clothes waste. Its aim is threefold:

  • responding to the environmental need for a correct waste disposal of textile goods;
  • offering a service to companies and organizations (factories, dressmakers, second hand clothes collection or storage centres, associations and so on) who want to get rid of old clothes and fabrics;
  • producing new fibers to be used as raw materials in different industries.

The cooperative plans to obtain different kinds of products from textile waste recycling, such as fibers and polyester granules, viscose, wool, kevlar and cotton fibers.
The project will be developed using the patent of and in partnership with “Next Technology Tecnotessile”, a company located in Prato textile area and having worked in research for the textile sector since 1972.

Target market

The cooperative target market may be divided into different segments according to the type of fibers obtained by recycling textile waste.
Nylon – largely used in clothing, carpets, construction and furnishings.
Kevlar – used for bullet-proof vests and sports clothing and equipment.
Cotton – used in clothing and furnishings but also for ropes, packaging materials, conveyor belts and wadding.
Wool – besides clothing, it is used for furnishing fabrics, cushioning and as insulating materials in buildings.
Polyester – used in general clothing and sports clothing, furnishings and technical equipment.
Viscose – used to obtain different products from clothing to tire cords.

Founders

The cooperative is made up of three members – an expert in material sciences, a student of communications and a specialist in organisation.
