L’Alveare is a coworking space with a nursery. It is a socially innovative initiative set up by the voluntary organization, Città delle mamme, with the work-life balance in mind. It is a coworking environment open to self-employed parents offering crèche facilities for children from 4 to 36 months. The project won a Call for social ideas launched by the Rome municipality and was granted a working space.
Below we find out more about them.
Where does the idea come from?
The idea came about seeing over the years in our voluntary activity that there was a big work-life balance problem among young women and new parents. Therefore, we studied a new solution allowing those who wanted to work, but at the same time look after their children, to find a place suitable to meet both these needs.
How is the team made up?
We began in four, working full time on the project putting together our skills into a team. Then we searched for a nursery teacher to coordinate and manage the crèche.
What is your medium/long term goal?
We would like to increase our working space encouraging more people to join us and collaborate more to open up our community to new ideas and activities.
Why a cooperative?
The cooperative seems the most appropriate natural evolution of our voluntary organization. Participating in the Coopstartup call gave us the opportunity to understand better the cooperative model, to follow a training course and a tutored program to set up the company.
