L’Alveare is a coworking environment open to self-employed parents offering crèche facilities for children from 4 to 36 months. It is a socially innovative initiative set up by the voluntary organization, Città delle mamme, with the work-life balance in mind. The project won a Call for Social Ideas and was granted a working space by the Rome Municipality. It is 200 m2 with 30 workstations, two separate offices, one meeting room and also a kitchen and two outdoor spaces. The coworking services include: opening hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Internet, meeting room use 6 hours a month, kitchen use, access to a printer and a fax and personal computer rental. The crèche is open until 4 p. m. with qualified nursery teachers. During the afternoons and weekends there are children’s workshops and courses (theatre, English, psychomotor skills, etc.) and, as well, the space is available for hire.
Target market
Coworking is becoming an increasingly popular way of working, sharing space and ideas. For parents with small children the availability of a crèche meets the need to balance work and family life. The crèche is an extra service but the coworking is open to all those who want to work with other people in a familiar space.
Founders
The cooperative is made up of four members with degrees in Political Sciences, Literature, Arts History and Psychology.
