Cooperative profile
Ghinghinelli focuses on neglected rural areas on the outskirts of Genova to farm high quality organic products using sustainable techniques and processes. The cooperative would like to promote the recovery and development of the whole area through agricultural activities.
The farming activity will be concentrated on:
- saffron in the form of dried stigmas – considering that saffron represents about 20% of the spices sold in Italy and that the majority of it comes from abroad often lacking quality and traceability, the cooperative will focus on producing high quality saffron with organic certification, the protection label “Zafferano Italiano” and the innovative packaging in recycling PET;
- Km0 seasonal horticultural products and forest berries – where people can choose their products directly from the fields;
- Ligurian wild hops – to create a new craft beer.
Other resources will also be devoted to organizing educational courses on healthy diets and environmental issues and to planning forest maintenance projects to safeguard and preserve woods from the risk of hydrogeological imbalance and loss of natural re-productivity.
Target market
The cooperative’s target market is that of high quality agriculture focusing on clients in search of quality, transparency, reliability, certified origin and attentive to their food and health. Target clients could be: organic enthusiasts, organic sympathizers and organic-ethical fans.
Founders
The cooperative is made up of four members with competences and skills in different fields (from goldsmithry and arts to social care and communication) but all fond of their native land and agriculture.
