Migrant ethnic catering

Cooperative profile

Tobilì (or Cooking on the move, because people move to different countries through the discovery of their cooking traditions) proposes ethnic cooking as a means to promote cross-cultural dialogue. The cooperative carries out different activities:

  • ethnic cooking,
  • ethnic catering services,
  • cookery workshops and lessons on Armenian, Turkish/Kurdish, Malian and Somali cooking,
  • cross-cultural exchange events focused on different countries’ culinary arts.

Being set up mainly by young migrants (asylum seekers and refugees), the cooperative would like to become an example of matching entrepreneurship and cultural integration.

Target market

The cooperative’s target market are people interested in eating and socializing, food, particularly ethnic food, being the catalyst for discovering other cultures and traditions. It is a new experience in Naples, where ethnic cooking is not widespread. It is located in the historical heart of Naples.

Founders

The cooperative is made up of five members: three young asylum seekers or refugees from Turkey, Mali and Armenia, an Italian catering manager and an Italian project manager.
